About Peonies
Peonies symbolise prosperity, good fortune, honour and a happy marriage — which is why they are so heavily associated with weddings and with the 12th wedding anniversary. In East Asian tradition they are considered a flower of wealth and rank. They are, in short, a flower that signals abundance, and they look it.
The varieties you are most likely to see in a Dubai bouquet:
- Sarah Bernhardt — the pale blush-pink double peony. The most widely grown cut peony in the world, and the one most people mean when they say "peony".
- Coral Charm — opens a vivid coral and fades to peach and cream as it ages. Genuinely spectacular.
- Red Charm — deep, saturated crimson.
- Duchesse de Nemours — creamy white with a soft fragrance.
Now the honest part: peonies are seasonal. They are a temperate-climate flower with a genuinely short natural window — the main European and Dutch harvest runs roughly from late April to June. Outside that window, supply comes from counter-season growers in the Southern Hemisphere, chiefly Chile and New Zealand, giving a second, smaller and much more expensive window around November and December.
What that means for you in practice: peonies are not reliably available all year round, and no honest Dubai florist can promise otherwise. Outside the seasons above, availability is limited and prices rise steeply. Everything peony has to be air-freighted into the UAE, which is the real reason a peony bouquet costs several times what a rose bouquet does.
Before ordering peonies out of season, message us on WhatsApp and we will tell you honestly what is in the fridge that day. If they are not available, we will suggest alternatives — garden roses and spray roses give a similar ruffled, romantic look, and our luxury flower collections are full of them.
Peonies pair beautifully with roses, ranunculus and eucalyptus — though most of the time the right decision is to let them stand alone.
How Long Do Peonies Last?
Peonies arrive as tight, hard buds and open over several days. From delivery, expect around 5 to 7 days in total — shorter than a rose or a lily. That brevity is part of what makes them feel special, but it does mean the care matters more.
Dubai makes peonies harder than anywhere else, and it cuts both ways.
- Heat forces them open too fast. A peony left in a warm room, or in the sun, will go from bud to fully blown in a day and be finished in three. Keep them cool and out of direct sunlight.
- Air conditioning dries them out. Never put a peony vase in front of or under an AC vent — the dry airflow strips moisture from those big soft petals faster than any other flower we sell.
There is a useful trick here that works in your favour: if your peonies are stubbornly closed, warmth opens them; if they are opening too fast, cold slows them down. Want them at their peak for Saturday? Keep them somewhere cool until Friday, then bring them into the room. A bud that feels soft, like a marshmallow, when gently squeezed will open. A rock-hard bud may not.
Otherwise, the same rules as any Dubai bouquet: re-cut the stems at a 45° angle on arrival and every couple of days, change the water every 2–3 days to stop bacteria blocking the stems, strip leaves below the waterline, and keep them well away from ripening fruit.

No, and we will not pretend otherwise. The main season runs late April to June, with a smaller Southern Hemisphere window around November and December. Outside those periods availability is limited and prices are higher. Message us on WhatsApp and we will tell you exactly what we have.
Why are peonies so expensive?
They are seasonal, they cannot be grown in the UAE, and every stem is air-freighted in. That is the entire reason — there is no premium being added for the name.
